Women’s boxing match in Prison

November 14th, 2005 by Maria

On November 5, 2005, the Klong Luang Prison, in Thailand organised a very interesting boxing fight. The contestants of the fight - Nananko Kikuchi of Japan vs. Thailand’s Nongmai Sor Siriporn, who was making her pro debut. Kikuchi is Japan’s national champion, and Siriporn is serving a 6-year sentence for methamphetamine offenses in the Thailand prison.

Siriporn displaying the heart of a tiger, and for not ever fighting in a sanctioned boxing fight, did quite well to last seven rounds with a seasoned boxer, Kikuchi. Some sources said this was mainly because she was promised a shorter sentence if she won the fight… now, how interesting is this?
