Diet Coke And Mentos Experiments

An awesome show put on by using Diet Coke and Mentos only. In fact lots of them - 101 bottles of two-liter Diet Coke, and 523 mentos. It looks like a waste, but the awesome show justifies it.

I wonder why they chose to use diet coke? Can’t the normal coke does the same trick? What about Pepsi?

Since this experiment is so successful, perhaps in the future, this can be used to replace fireworks show?
