Shot Glass Coin Trick

October 4th, 2006 by Maria

Magic and illusions have always amaze me because I can never figure out how they do it. Coin trick is especially fascinating because they are simple and straight forward, but still I have no clue how that can be done!

Coin Trick

Check out this trick, see if you can tell me how it’s actually done.

In a blink of your eye, the coin slips through the glass… haha, how cool is that?

If you tell us how it is done, then it wont be magic anymore. I think everyone needs a litle magic in their life.

I dont know exactly but here is my theory. The coin under the glass is not proven tp be two seperate coins. Therefore it is most likely a gaffed coin. A coin that appears to be two, but isn’t is called a flipper. a piece of invisible thread is attached to the bill and wrapped around the gaffed coin under the glass. There is also a quarter under the bill that is placed on top of the glass as the bill is placed on (which is very obvious, the guy needs to work on presentation). When the bill is yanked, the invisile thread disturbs the flipper, and the flipper folds back in on itself. The folding process makes the coin jump around and it appears that one coin has visually passed through the glass.

As someone who studies magic, I hate illusions like this. I’m a fan of direct/close-up effects, but this just isn’t a creative use of basic techniques.
