The 15th Asian Games is being held in Doha, Qatar from December 1, 2006 to December 15, 2006. Doha will be the first city in its region and only the second in West Asia since Tehran in 1974 to host the games.
Doha is the capital of Qatar, and is located near the Persian Gulf. Much of Qatar’s oil and natural gas wealth is visible in Doha, which is the economical centre of Qatar.

Magnificent fireworks light up the beautiful sky above the Khalifa Stadium where the opening ceremony is held.
Doha is home to the headquarters of the country’s largest oil and gas companies, including Qatar Petrolium and RasGas. One glance at the skyline, you can see it’s dominated by cranes and gleaming new skyscrapers! Although they are rich, but not sure how much they will be spending for hosting this world class event
Let’s check out more pictures of the 15th Asian Games.

The Asian Games flame burns brightly within the astrolabe at the Khalifa Stadium.

Jose Carreras and Magida El Roumi perform after the athletes’ parade.

This is interesting. Hong Kong’ pop superstar Jacky Cheung was invited to perfom too!

Asian culture was also convered in the opening ceremony since this is Asian Games!

Artists in colourful and vibrant costumes performing to the crowd!

The torch carriers spelt out the message ‘Peace be upon you’ to the world. What a magnificent formation.
